New Guidelines for Infrared Inspections! NFPA 70B 2023
NFPA 70B - Recommended Practices for Electrical Equipment Maintenance 2023 Edition Update!
Infrared Thermography of All electrical equipment has been made Mandatory at intervals not exceeding 12 months and "shall be used when required to verify temperature differences (Delta T)".
This type of testing includes electrical equipment and components with similar loading characteristics as well as comparisons between equipment and ambient air temperatures (Section 7.4 NFPA 70B 2023).

Thermography & Electrical Equipment
As identified by the updates in the NFPA 70B 2023 Standard, inspections utilizing Infrared Thermography (IR) are key to conducting and maintaining effective E.P.M. (Electrical Preventive Maintenance).
When it comes to performing electrical tests on many of the components and equipment installed in the industry today, Infrared Thermography is listed as the first one to be completed!
- Fuses, Circuit Breakers, & Switches
- Metal Cable Tray
- UPS Systems
- Battery Energy Storage Systems
- Photovoltaic Systems
Inspection and testing should always be completed and documented by highly trained and certified industry professionals!
